New year is kicking in. New vibes and newness in everything. Isn’t it? How are you feeling? Excited? Nervous? Anything else? I am feeling pretty excited about 2018. Like every other day though..!! 🙂
So, if you are reading this post, I am assuming that weight-loss is on your mind. Guess what?? When I talked about 2018 goals on my Instagram, weight-loss came out as a clear winner. So see, you are not alone. That means, you should stop beating yourself up for being overweight. Let’s work towards your weight-loss goals as the year starts. 🙂
Don’t stress about weight-loss.
Being overweight is not bad. You just have to lose some fat. That’s fine. Isn’t it? You gained it. You’ll lose it too. It’s that simple. I know you’ll say, “Nooooo, It’s not that simple.”
So re-wire your thoughts this time. Weight-loss is simple. You just have to work a little towards it. And in the right direction.
I lost about 15 kgs. Yes, It took time and it was not easy. But trust me, It was simple.
So don’t complex your life too much to lose weight. Do these simple things and you’ll find yourself moving towards getting fitter and healthier.
Exercise. No excuses here.
That’s obvious. Isn’t it?
Don’t think of skipping on this because exercise is non-negotiable, as I always say.
No time to exercise? Make some changes in your lifestyle so that you can make some time here and there to exercise. Aim for at least 30 minutes for four days a week. How about starting with 10-15 minutes everyday?

Eat more veggies.
Vegetables can really speed up your weight-loss journey. They are usually nutrient-rich, high in fibre and fill you up with goodness. But that doesn’t mean you need to just have bland boiled vegetables and no carbohydrates. You need to just find ways to include more vegetables in your diet. For example, you can increase the portions of veggies on your plate for lunch and dinner.
That’s the advice not just for weight-loss. But also for your body to function at its best. Grab a glass of water right now and sip on, as you read further. 🙂
Cut down on processed food.
I think when it comes to weight-loss, this is the most difficult part. You need to cut down on everything which is processed. Things like Biscuits, namkeen, sauces, chips, etc. are not good for your system. Yes you need to cut down on these and gradually remove them from your lifestyle, or may be, just keep them for an occasional treat.
Eat more whole grains, fruits, vegetables etc.
Say bye to white sugar. Have healthy alternatives in moderation.
I have tried replacing white sugar with healthier alternatives and that has helped me a lot in my weight-loss journey.
You can try options like jaggery, honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, dates, cinnamon powder etc. May be, start by cutting down on the amount of sugar you add to your food/drinks etc.
Overeating never helped anyone.
Imagine a balloon. You keep on filling it with air. There’ll be a time when it can no longer take it and it will burst. Imagine the plight of the poor balloon. Same is the case with your stomach. Yes, it doesn’t burst. But that doesn’t mean it’s not troubled. It’s heavily burdened every time you over eat.
Eat your meals till you are about 90 percent full and definitely not more than 100 percent. When your digestion falls in place, weight-loss becomes easier. 🙂
Chew your food well.
Again, why trouble the poor stomach so much? It was not meant to do the task of our teeth.
Chew your food properly & and you’ll start feeling amazingly light in your body if you make this a habit.
Choose Sautéing, baking grilling and steaming over frying.
Try changing your cooking methods and see all the difference in your weight and how you feel. Fried food should be an occasional treat.
Have a balanced diet.
A balanced diet is very important. Don’t go on a no-carbs diet. Or low-fat diet. Your plate should be a mix of all the macros and micros, a balanced mix of proteins, carbs, fats, minerals and vitamins. Aim for having more proteins and vegetables in your diet, if you are consuming less.
Embrace healthy fats.
Don’t be afraid of healthy fats. They’ll only help you in weight-loss. You can have ghee, extra virgin olive oil, cold-pressed coconut oil, nuts & seeds, avocado etc. for a doze of healthy fats. Apply ghee on your rotis. Add it to your sabzi. Make salad dressings using extra virgin olive oil. Prepare a dip using avocado. Sprinkle some nuts and seeds on your salad or have them raw. Embrace all these foods. They are good for you.
Stay away from refined oils and fried food though.
Watch the booze.
That’s ok in moderation. But if weight-loss is your priority, cut down as much as you can. Also, sugary cocktails are best if avoided.
Work towards boosting your metabolism.
I got this wrong for a very long time. But when I improved on my metabolism, weight-loss happened on it’s own.
That’s the case with a lot of people who are not losing weight, even when they are doing everything else right.
If your metabolism is poor, weight-loss really slows down. Make sure that you are always working on improving your metabolism so that you burn food rapidly and even at rest.
Think fat loss.
You need to lose fat in your body, and not muscles. Make sure you are doing it right.
Make it a priority to sleep well. Like exercise, It cannot be compromised on.
Set realistic and small goals.
Don’t fall for all those traps of losing 5 kgs in 2 weeks or becoming slim overnight or any other crap like that.
Weight-loss should be done in a healthy way. Or else you’ll just gain back that weight in no time.
Based on your body, set real goals.Know your body composition and analyse where you want to reach. And then, break down those goals into monthly and weekly goals. Trust me, this is the best way to go about weight-loss. It’s an amazing feeling to reach small milestones. If you look at losing 15 kgs or 10 kgs all at once, it will only sound daunting.
Focus more on your health than the number on the scale.
That scale you check on every now and then is not a correct indicator of your health.
Stop checking your weight too often.
I know it’s important to track your progress. All I am suggesting is to not get obsessive about checking your weight. 🙂
Also, focus on happiness and holistic health. Weight-loss will happen.
Reward yourself every time you reach a little closer to your goal.
I know sometimes this is so important to keep going.
But, a lot of people reward themselves with food. A lot of food.
Lost 3 kgs. Partied for three days and had not-so-good sort of food…!!!!
You can reward yourself with things other than food too. Buy something you wanted to buy from long. Buy that dress. Even better, buy some more workout clothes. Get yourself a book, go for a body massage, etc.
Use the power of visualisation.
Imagine yourself fitter and at ideal weight. Imagine being already there.
Don’t compare yourself with others.
That’s the best gift you could give to yourself. Stop worrying why someone else lost more than you. Stop looking at others and wishing to look like them. Love yourself and your body.
Respect the uniqueness of your body and go at your own pace. It’s your own journey. Let no one else influence it. The only thing to seek in others should be inspiration. 🙂
Focus on what you should eat rather than what you should not.
I know it gets very irritating at times, when you patiently make efforts to not eat so many things you would love to devour. And still, you don’t seem to see the results.
When you focus too much on what you are not eating, your expectations rise and all you
look for desperately wait for is quick weight-loss. And if that doesn’t happen, you get disheartened and eat more junk. Why? Because damn emotions…!!
Shift your focus on what you can eat. Trust me, there’s no end to food which is healthy and yet, tasty.
Do this and see the difference in your attitude towards weight-loss.
Take it easy. And work towards it happily.
Work for a healthier and fitter body.
Work towards making lifestyle changes.
Try losing weight with love this time, instead of worry.
And be patient. Good things take time. 🙂
Depending upon whereever you are in your journey, I wish you heaps of good luck to become fitter, healthier version of yourself. I am sure, Weight-loss is not a distant dream. This year you will slay it like a boss..!! won’t you? 🙂
Share this with your friends who are looking for weight-loss. And ask me if you have any question on weight-loss. Ask me if you would want to know more about any of the above points. I would love to help you. Let’s do this together. Happy new beginning 🙂
