5 important things to do before 2018

It’s such a lovely time of the year. Isn’t it? Are you willing to make some good changes in your life from 2018?

If yes, Don’t wait till the new year actually kicks in. Here are some things which you can do now for a better year. Also, If you are reading this in 2018, don’t worry, you can still do all these things. Go ahead and make 2018 the best year of your life.

1. Reflect upon 2017

Sit back and have a look at how your 2017 was. Cherish the lovely moments.

List down your achievements and feel proud of them. Even better, pat your back.

List out the things you wanted to do, but could not. Ponder why you could not do them and see what can you do differently in 2018 to get those things done. List out your major strengths, weaknesses, and learnings.

2. Don’t tag yourself in any way

We often do this unknowingly.

Phrases like these are so common for us:

“I couldn’t lose weight. I am fat.”,  “I couldn’t achieve targets at my workplace. I am a loser.”, etc.

And the list goes on.

This is the way a lot of us constantly talk to ourselves and without realising, we give ourselves certain identities. For example, you tag yourself as FAT so easily. You tell yourself that you are a LOSER if you couldn’t do a few things.

This year remove all these identities. You are not all these. Don’t attach these names or tags or identities to yourself.  They should not define you. Not at all. ..!!

Don’t enter the new year with these meaningless identities.

3. Declutter your surroundings

As you all know, I am a big fan of cleanliness. Somehow, Decluttering my surroundings help me declutter my mind, which in turn brings more clarity. Clarity to know what I want, clarity to know what I want to do, clarity to know how I want to do a particular thing.

I highly recommend cleaning up your spaces before you enter 2018. Be it your room, your desk, your cupboards, small drawers, kitchen cabinets, bathroom shelves etc. I know that might be too much of work for some of you. Be easy on yourself. Pick on small areas and clean them up one by one. Just do a small bit whenever you get time, and you’ll be sorted.

I had learnt this the hard way. Earlier, I used to get so excited about cleaning on one random day and would want to clean up EVERYTHING that same day. All I did was, created more MESS in the entire house. I realised over time that it’s not the way.

See what works for you. Of course, It depends on how cluttered your surroundings are!!! But decluttering helps to get you organised. Isn’t that what you want in 2018?

4. Set your goal map

Yes, you would want to make certain changes in 2018.

But just thinking about them might not be of much help if you don’t have a plan about your goals 🙂

May be, in the start of the year, you’ll accomplish certain things but then the days come and go, life happens and we all tend to forget our goals. Let me know in the comments below, if something like that happened with you in 2017 or previous years.

I highly suggest writing your goals, and making a simple (yet practical and effective) plan about how you want to achieve those goals. When you have a road map of your plan, the journey towards your goals would be smoother. And trust me, everyday you’ll have more time to actually do the things you need to do than thinking what to do.

5. Start on a new note

You can’t change the past.

You can’t change it by thinking about it too.

Yes you could have done some things differently, but you didn’t do. That’s ok.

We end up wasting so much of time by being in our past. While life happens in the present moment.

The best thing we can do to ourselves is not live in the past. Yes I know, in the first point I asked you to reflect upon 2017. There’s a difference between the two. When you reflect upon the previous year, you gain clarity about your life. You learn. You know what things to focus on & what to ignore.

After you have done that, you need to let go of the past. Only your actions in the new year should be improved based on last year’s learnings. Also, don’t forget to forgive yourself for everything you have done wrong till day. It’s fine. You deserve to be gentle with yourself.
